A new wave of Ultra phones may be coming to an end thanks to higher prices for its processors and memory chips and consumer, or other, preferences. But Oppo has grand designs on new form factors and imaging devices.
Oppo’s Find X Ultra, which saw many camera and display “firsts” could be over, as it’s one of the most souped up phone lines of recent years. The Ultra was halted at Oppo, even the Find X10 Ultra which was planned for next quarter, as the users’ preferences and habits are changing and the chip costs have gone through the roof.
The 2027 Oppo phone lineup is expected to be slimmer, with fewer phones being offered in the premium Find X brand compared to the previous year, and will likely have greater focus on a bigger size. It doesn’t become clear if that includes the N line of foldable Oppo phones, too, which is one of the thinnest and most camera-centric out there.
Oppo Find X10 Ultra launch may be cancelled
In any case, when asked if the suspension of development will start from this or the next generation, the leaker DCS with a credible track record when it comes to insider knowledge replied with “this generation,” meaning that the Oppo Find X10 Ultra may never see the light of day. Sadly, that’s not the case as users looked forward to a triple 200 MP camera set with Oppo’s 10x periscope zoom lens in good company.
Such a phone, however, especially with the latest-gen Snapdragon chip, copious amounts of memory, and a huge battery, would likely be prohibitively expensive, which may have been another consideration for putting the kibosh on the line by Oppo. For example, the recently released Oppo Find X10 Pro Max, which comes with a triple 200 MP camera, is almost as expensive as Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, which is still on sale on Amazon.
Oppo isn’t the only company to abandon its flagship line of Ultra phones: Xiaomi’s flagship Ultra model, the Xiaomi 18 Ultra, was also reportedly cancelled due to the high price. This is believed to be partly because of rising prices in memory. It’s also unclear when the sub-brand’s iQOO 16 Ultra will launch, and another leaker has mentioned that the OnePlus 16 and OPPO Find X10 Ultra launches in India have been scrapped, giving weight to that rumor mill.
New Oppo phones in 2027.
As for Oppo’s 2027 plans, its contribution to the wide phone screen trend could include a 6.35-inch slab with a standard 16:9 ratio and a 2560 x 1440 display. With a body said to be about 81 mm wide, which is wider than the body of the current flagship Find X9, the bezels are said to be around 1 mm. The flagship Dimensity chip and a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint sensor are said to be used by test units. The first one would be a top-line car and a lighter, camera-focused variant may be available at a later date.
The leaker further states that Oppo will be launching a new type of imaging device, using its handset camera capabilities, a gimbal camera, soon. It was earlier rumoured that pocket gimbals with a 200 MP 1/1.12″ sensor, perhaps Hasselblad or Zeiss sensor collaboration, and a high-end chip are being developed for both Oppo and Vivo. Needless to say, the death of the Find X10 Ultra hasn’t been confirmed and Oppo has not made any official statements. However, if the Ultra truly is to take a back seat, then the Find X line and Oppo’s lineup as a whole could be very different in 2027.
