MediaTek has announced the Dimensity 7500 and it is the first mobile processor to feature Arm’s C1 CPU cores. The octa-core processor also has a new NPU and brings notable performance and efficiency improvements.
MediaTek does have a new processor and it’s a special one because it’s the first mobile processor with Arm’s newest C1 CPU cores. The new chipset is officially named Dimensity 7500, and will be used for mid-range Android smartphones and tablets.
MediaTek says the Dimensity 7500 represents a major leap in performance and power efficiency over the previous-generation Dimensity chipset. First, the new chipset is claimed to be up to 68 percent faster at video transcoding, up to 40 percent faster at file transfers, up to 30 percent faster at application switching, up to 11 percent faster at application installation and up to 19 percent faster at game level load times.
MediaTek also states that there is a 5-9% boost in power efficiency in common apps adopted on a daily basis and a 4-7% power efficiency improvement for popular games.
The Dimensity 7500 is an 8-core 4nm CPU. It features four Arm C1 Pro high performance cores running at 2.6GHz, and four Arm C1 Nano efficiency cores running at 2.0GHz. It’s also equipped with a MediaTek NPU 850 that is said to deliver best-in-class generative AI features. For its GPU, it has a Mali-G625 MC2.
The processor has support for displays with a resolution of up to 1344 × 2800 and a 144Hz refresh rate. It also has support for LPDDR5 memory at up to 6400Mbps, UFS 3.1 2-lane storage; up to a 200MP main camera sensor, and 4K HDR video recording. The Dimensity 7500 also has Bluetooth 5.4 and Wi-Fi 6E.
There’s no info yet on which brands have signed up to use the Dimensity 7500, but it most likely won’t be long before the announcement of the first smartphone powered by the chipset.
