Google is set to launch its new Android XR smart glasses this fall, featuring consumer-ready frames designed in collaboration with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker. These glasses will include built-in navigation, hands-free messaging, photo capture, live translation, and other AI-powered tools—all designed to minimize reliance on a smartphone.

The journey began in December 2025, when Google announced its plans to develop Android XR smart glasses. At Google I/O 2026, the company officially confirmed that the first consumer models will hit the market this fall. The platform was co-developed with Samsung and Qualcomm, while the design was crafted in partnership with fashion eyewear brands Gentle Monster and Warby Parker.
These smart glasses are part of Google’s broader Android XR ecosystem and are deeply integrated with its Gemini AI assistant. The goal is to provide users with contextual assistance while keeping them engaged with the world around them, rather than glued to their phones.
Two Models to Choose From:
- Audio-Only Glasses: These come with built-in speakers and voice assistance.
- Display-Integrated Glasses: These feature screens that show contextual information directly in the user’s field of view.
Users can activate Gemini by saying “Hey Google” or tapping the side of the frame. The AI assistant can answer questions about what users see, interact with smartphone apps, and assist with daily tasks in real time.

Key Features:
- Navigation: The glasses offer turn-by-turn directions based on the user’s gaze. Gemini can suggest nearby places, add stops to routes, and handle everything via voice commands.
- Hands-Free Messaging: Users can send messages without touching their phones.
- Photo and Video Capture: Photos can be taken with voice commands, and AI tools like Nano Banana can edit images or remove unwanted objects.
- Live Translation: Real-time translation preserves the speaker’s tone and voice characteristics.
Advanced AI Capabilities:
Gemini can manage multi-step tasks in the background. For example, it can place a coffee order through DoorDash while the user’s phone remains in their pocket, requiring only a final confirmation.
Technical Details:
While Google’s press release doesn’t dive into technical specs, promo renders suggest both models will have a battery capacity of at least 0.37 Wh. They may also offer light protection against liquid and dust, though not at IP67-grade levels
