A tipster on X claims the Galaxy Z Fold9 under-display camera plan revives Samsung’s hidden selfie camera. Specifically, Samsung reportedly targets a return next year. Furthermore, the Fold9 reportedly enters development already.
Key Takeaways
- Samsung reportedly restores the under-display camera on the Fold9’s inner screen.
- The Fold9 reportedly targets 3.9mm unfolded and 7.9mm folded thickness.
- GSMArena warns the thickness figures look shaky and unconfirmed.
Key Details & Core Impact
Samsung used under-display cameras from the Fold3 in 2021 through the Fold6. However, the Fold7 switched to a regular punch hole instead. Meanwhile, this year’s Fold8 models kept that punch hole design. Consequently, a Fold9 return would reverse four generations of direction.
Specifically, the tipster also claims “major internal changes” for the device. Furthermore, overall thickness and design reportedly change only minimally. Meanwhile, readers can check the full Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 specs to see today’s baseline. Therefore, the camera becomes the headline change.
Context & Background
Samsung reportedly positions the Fold9 directly against Apple’s first foldable. Notably, Apple’s rival hides a 4MP selfie camera under its inner display. Additionally, the full Apple iPhone Duo specs show that hidden-camera approach. Consequently, Samsung may simply match its newest rival.
However, GSMArena urges a hefty pinch of salt here. Specifically, the wide Fold8 measures 4.5mm unfolded and 9.7mm folded. Therefore, a 7.9mm Fold9 seems unlikely alongside minimal changes. Meanwhile, Samsung’s official site confirms nothing about any Fold9 yet.
Industry Reaction & Consumer Next Steps
Our earlier Galaxy Z Fold 9 Wide report covered Samsung’s wider foldable plans. Furthermore, full rumour details appear in GSMArena’s report on the Fold9 camera rumour. Meanwhile, buyers should treat every figure here as unconfirmed. Consequently, waiting for Samsung’s announcement remains the sensible move.
Timeline: The Galaxy Z Fold9 is rumoured for next year. Samsung has confirmed no camera, thickness, date, or price yet.
