Philips has launched the Envia 27M2N5500XD in China, revealing more details about its super high refresh rate gaming monitor. With a 500 Hz refresh rate at QHD and a 1,000 Hz dual mode, it is faster than the new OLEDs coming out, though there are trade-offs.

Philips has recently introduced the Envia 27M2N5500XD at its domestic market. This is another of the super-high-refresh gaming monitors as was revealed in the Esports Market Empowerment and High Resolution Gaming Display Trends Seminar in Beijing which was sponsored by TCL CSOT and took place at the end of the previous year. It is stated by TCL Central that the monitor features a better IPS panel of TCL CSOT called HFS Shoot, which is the same panel as AOC AGON AGP277QK.
The strong point of the Envia 27M2N5500XD is the very high refresh rate. It is set to 500 Hz with QHD resolution, but resolution can be lowered to HD, increasing the refresh rate to 1,000 Hz, thereby beating the latest 720 Hz OLED monitors, including the Asus ROG Swift OLED PG27AQHP-W in the world market. Philips has now disclosed additional information about the monitor as it prepares to enter the global market.

As stated, the Envia 27M2N5500XD has a native 2560 x 1440 resolution on a 27-inch display. It is qualified to VESA DisplayHDR 400 level and supports up to 500 nits of peak brightness in both HDR and 350 nits in SDR. Other specifications that Philips states are that it has a contrast ratio of 2000:1, 96% DCI-P3 coverage, 100 percent sRGB, and 94 percent Adobe RGB.
In the case of gaming, there are options of 500 Hz with QHD and 1,000 Hz with HD (1280 x 720). The monitor features 1 ms response time, 0.3 ms Smart MBR (Motion Blur Reduction) mode and FreeSync VRR. Other features offered by Philips in-game include Smart Sniper, Shadow Boost, and Smart Crosshair, which are used in making scenes darker and to improve the accuracy of the aiming.

Envia 27M2N5500XD has a DisplayPort 2.1 input with bandwidth of 80 Gbps, complete 48 Gbps HDMI 2.1 ports, and headphone jack in terms of connectivity. It also features a height adjustable, swivel, pivot and tilt stand.
Philips has introduced the Envia 27M2N5500XD in China and likely the rest will be released worldwide later. Its nearest competitor the AOC AGON AGP277QK, on the other hand, has not gotten a release date. At this stage, however, there is still no monitor information available regarding pricing of both.
