A new and particularly compact e-reader can be attached to a compatible smartphone and so may be a particularly practical way to read e-books or articles for some. It can also display information such as QR codes or flight information.
Xteink X4 is a small e-reader, which is currently on sale at a price of $69. The device could be utilized as a standalone device, yet it could be magnetically fixed to a smartphone that is compatible. It is 114 x 69 x 5.9 millimeters and 74 grams weight. The e-reader is not powered with a SoC, it is powered with an ESP32 that is ubiquitous in the maker scene. A 32 GB microSD card is on board. There is WiFi and Bluetooth support, which ensures easy transfer of contents. The battery life of the phone is not particularly long and the 650 mAh battery should last between one and three hours per day, which is considered to be quite short.
The panel itself is 4.3 inches in the diagonal and 220 PPI in pixel density. The Xteink X4 is promoted to be used in a variety of applications, but with the small screen it is only possible to display a little text on any page, that is why you have to turn the page very frequently and change the lines. Yet it can be also easily used to present boarding passes of flights, membership cards or calendars, etc. The types of supported files are ePUB, text files, BMP and JPG. It is worth pointing out to the users that the e-reader lacks a touchscreen, and the side buttons are the key to the functionality.
