WhatsApp Will Let You Prevent Others From Automatically Saving The Media You Send Them

WhatsApp is working on a new privacy feature, as seen in the most recent Android beta build. This will be in development for a while longer, so don’t expect it to arrive right away.

Enabling this feature will allow you to enhance privacy, ensuring that individuals you communicate with cannot automatically save the media you send them on their devices.

WhatsApp will let you prevent others from auto-saving media you send them

WhatsApp typically saves all of the media you receive on your phone automatically. But once this is in place, you’ll be able to stop other people’s phones from doing that, as the screenshot above illustrates.

The disappearing messages already exhibit this same behavior. What’s new is that you can also configure it for standard messages and related media. Additionally, the feature will limit exporting full chat histories for conversations with users who have enabled this new setting. However, this won’t stop transmission of messages.

Furthermore, if you enable this “advanced chat privacy”, participants in a chat with you will be unable to use Meta AI in any way. Of course, WhatsApp could expand on this feature while it is in development. Anyway, when it does go live for everyone, it will be opt-in.
