New iPod-like “Sundial” swappable keypad revealed for upcoming premium modular dumb phone

Sidephone has just unveiled its new Sundial Keypad for the Sidephone SP-01 – a modular music controller with nine reprogrammable buttons and support for custom silicone cases. Priced at $29, it’ll ship with first devices in January 2026.

Sidephone the next modular minimalist cell phone has only recently announced its new accessory the Sundial Keypad. It is a replaceable control tile that is designed to be used in music playback and easy navigation of the device. The design and real-life incorporation of the Sundial, looking like the iPod control wheel (officially only, not in functionality) is revealed in the announcement made on the official account of Reddit ( Sidephone ).

The Sundial Keypad has a unique round dial with a total of nine buttons. These four soft-touch controls (arranged in the dial) control media playback features including previous, skip, volume up, and volume down, with a center button of glass as a play / pause.

The other four corner buttons are hard programmed to use core applications (Phone, Messages, Camera, Clock), and all nine keys can be reprogrammed in full through the settings menu of the Sidephone. The keypad is also modular, being magnetically attached to the bottom of the phone and is also swap-able quickly. In addition to Sundial, Sidephone will launch eight new silicone case colors, thus you can easily personalize your phone. In a first demonstration video, the manufacturing partner of Sidephone at Shenzhen was caught slotting the Sundial keypad in a production handset.

The first production batch will consist of 1,000 silver/white Sundial keypads and there may be silver/black version available should the demand warrant it. The price of the keypad will be charged at 29 dollars, and each silicone case will be sold at 10 dollars. Bundling will enable customers to combine and customize three cases and three types/tiles of keypads at a cost of 100. The initial wave of Sundial accessories should go out with the delivery of the first Founders Edition Sidephone devices, and should ship in January 2026. It is important to note that the US pre-orders on the Sidephone SP-01 had been opened earlier this month on October 16 – you have the opportunity to read more about it here.
