Design and Display
iPhone 17 Pro Max has a completely new two-tone aluminium design with full-width camera plateau instead of the older lens bump module. The matte aluminum case (7000-series aerospace alloy) remains high-quality even though it has shed Grade-5 titanium. The patch on the center of the back is a glossy ceramic shield patch that is used to dissipate heat to provide a unique appearance. Both the front and back glass have Ceramic Shield 2: the front glass is now said to be 3 times as tough against scratches, and the back is 4 times tougher against crack than the back glass on the 16 Pro.
The frame on the iPhone 16 Pro Max was titanium with a micro-blasted texture and the glass (Ceramic Shield) was on the front only. The models are both IP68 water/dust resistant, but the additional aluminum surface of the 17 (with new matte finishes of Deep Blue, Cosmic Orange or Silver) provides a distinct appearance. In comparison, the A18 Pro (iPhone 16 Pro Max) was already fast enough of its time – Apple claimed an approximate 15 percent higher CPU and 20 percent higher GPU speeds compared to the previous generation – but the A19 is oriented toward longevity. According to the MacObserver, A19 is tuned to sustain higher clocks within the same thermal profile, thus high-demand processes such as longer 4K recording or gaming sustain high speeds with reduced throttling.
Early data In benchmarks, A19: Geekbench 6 multi-core scores are about +19% faster than A18, and AnTuTu around +12%. There is a difference of just a few per cent on single-core performance. What is more significant, is the efficiency: A19 has faster clocks that provide more refined performance as time goes on. The CPU on both chips is 2 x Everest big cores (approximately 4.0-4.38 GHz) and 4 x Sawtooth efficiency cores (approximately 2.4-2.5 GHz).
Memory bandwidth was also increased by Apple in the A19 (LPDDR5X at 4800 0 MHz), which ought to assist graphics and AI workloads. The RAM is not stated in official specs, and both phones are thought to have approximately 8 GB of LPDDR5X memory.

Software Features
iPhones 17 Pro Max comes with iOS 26 that introduces a new interface and sophisticated Apple Intelligence. The new design theme of Liquid Glass makes the Home and Lock Screens appear transparent and dynamic, with many stock apps being updated, and includes Live Translation (within Phone, FaceTime, Messages) , new AI writing tools, and new apps such as Apple Games. At launch, the pricing remained the same as the previous generation. The iPhone 16 Pro Max started at $1,199 in the U.S. for the 256 GB model. The iPhone 17 Pro Max also starts at $1,199 for 256 GB. (Note: unlike earlier years, both models use 256 GB as the base configuration.) Available capacities for the 16 Pro Max were 256 GB, 512 GB, and 1 TB.
