The next update to Apple’s iOS, namely iOS 26.4, may bring video playback to CarPlay. Code found in the iOS 26.4 beta 1 hints that CarPlay users will be able to watch video on Apple TV and other select apps, but only when their vehicle is parked.
Apple will soon have an addition of CarPlay that will allow drivers to have an additional source of entertainment on the road.
It will be featured in the iOS 26.4. Snippets posted on X by Aaron Perris indicate the presence of Apple TV on CarPlay, suggesting that soon video can be played on the car-screen. 9to5Mac published similar code with climate controls, notifications and TV App, most likely Apple TV.
Apple has assured that it will release video-playback in a new release of iOS 26. The documentation on its CarPlay describes it as, CarPlay video in the car allows individuals to view their favorite videos on an iPhone on the CarPlay display when not operating the car. The company encourages developers to add CarPlay and AirPlay video so that they can have this feature in their car.
But there is one huge safety condition. The video playback will just be offered when the vehicle is parked. This avoids watching Tik Tok on the move as a driver which is safer. It, however, restricts the flexibility with which families or other passengers can use the car screen as an infotainment center or videogame player on the way.
Since the automakers have to enable the feature, not all cars can get a video playback during its release.
