A survey of the mobile app market in 13 countries was carried out by Data.ai (formerly App Annie). They discovered that smartphone users are utilizing mobile apps for an increasing amount of time. Currently, this amount equals 4-5 hours each day.

Although the average daily time spent on mobile applications differs by country, 13 countries now have a daily average of more than 4 hours. Residents of Indonesia, Singapore, Brazil, Mexico, Australia, India, Japan, South Korea, Canada, Russia, Turkey, the United States, and the United Kingdom are among them. At the same time, consumers spend more than 5 hours each day using mobile applications in Indonesia, Singapore, and Brazil.

It has been observed that, compared to the second quarter of 2020, when the coronavirus pandemic was at its worst, the growth in the time spent using mobile applications has slowed down. At that time, the popularity of mobile applications across all categories had rapidly increased. Users had to shop online, play more mobile games, work and study from home, and connect with one another using different video conferencing services.

Certain nations’ users seem to have held onto the habits they developed throughout the pandemic. This is relevant to the amount of time spent using different mobile applications, which not only increased when the situation in healthcare became more normalized rather than decreasing. For instance, Singaporeans used mobile applications on average for 4.1 hours per day in the second quarter of 2020 and 5.7 hours per day in the second quarter of 2022. Australia saw a 3.6-hour increase to a 4.9-hour rise in time spent using apps between Q2 2020 and Q2 2022. There has been a 40% increase in both instances.

A ranking of the top games and applications during the second quarter was also released by data.ai. TikTok and Instagram are the market leaders in terms of consumer expenditure and total worldwide downloads. In terms of MAUs, Facebook continues to dominate non-gaming apps, surpassing competitors like WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, TikTok, Telegram, and more.
