Facebook introduced a very significant update to its app today. First off, it’s long overdue and makes sense that the main feed you see when you launch the app is now called Home. The main news is not that, though.
The major update is the addition of a new tab in the app called Feeds. Additionally, this tab is organized in reverse chronological order, just as what was previously known as Home before the algorithm seized control.
You can choose to only see content from your friends, groups, pages, or favorites when using the Feeds tab’s filters. This is a hand-curated list of the people and pages you care about most.
Facebook has changed their posture for the Home feed to make it “more of a discovery engine for you to find and follow new content and creators through recommendations” Feeds serves as a counterpoint, allowing you to access content from the communities and people with whom you are already linked. In Feeds, there are no posts labeled “Suggested For You”
Today, a tiny portion of Facebook users on iOS and Android are starting to receive the new Home and Feeds tabs. Over the next week, everyone on Facebook ought to receive these.
On iOS, the shortcut bar that contains these tabs is located at the bottom of the Facebook app; on Android, it is located at the top. The shortcut bar’s tabs automatically adjust based on the areas of the program you use the most, but you may customize and “pin” tabs to your shortcut bar to permanently fix their position if you like.
